The story
Then and Now

The dirtiest cop in N.Y.
In the 1980s Mike Dowd was a patrol officer in Brooklyn's 75th Precinct. He went from taking small payoffs to running a crew of officers who protected and worked with drug traffickers. He was arrested in 1992, and his case became a focus of the Mollen Commission, the city's investigation into police corruption. The New York Daily News called him “the dirtiest cop in N.Y.”
He served more than 12 years in federal prison.
His story is the subject of the documentary The Seven Five (2014), directed by Tiller Russell. Today he speaks to students, leaders and law enforcement about how good people slide into bad decisions, why the blue wall of silence holds, and how to rebuild a life after the worst thing you have ever done. He lives in Clearwater, Florida.
